Day 4: First of the hills - Leigh Creek to Ita Warta

Distance - 64kms
Climbing - 420 metres

A fabulous day of cycling. Ideal conditions, a cool start, hardly a breath of wind.

The gravel road was generally good, with only a few corrugations.  It was a steady climb.  The hills are not big, but continually undulating and gaining altitude.

The landscape has changed from the barren of the desert to hills, rocky outcrops, gorges, scrub and stony creeks  - it really is spectacular out here.

Found a better rhythm today, and keeping a consistent pace.  We stop every hour for 10 minutes to eat and drink.  Seemed to work as felt very strong at rides end.  Backside much better today as well.

Ita Warta is an aboriginal community in the area.  They've got a few camping options, we've gone for the tents (see photo below). They come with a camp bed. It's nice to not be on the ground for a change.

Tomorrow we turn south.  We'll be 3, maybe 4 nights to the next supply point at Yunta.  Hopefully, we've dropped enough drinking water.  While there isn't much traffic, many people stop for a chat or just to see if we need anything so we don't expect an issue if we run dry.

For food tonight, we've gone for little boys and pasta again - when you're on a good thing, stick to it.

Staple diet

I particularly enjoy the burnt bits
