Ride Overview

This blog covers an unsupported bicycle ride from Level Post Bay which is on the eastern side of Lake Eyre in Outback South Australia to the peak of Mt. Kosciusko, which is in the Snowy Mountains region of New South Wales.

The ride is scheduled to commence 14 September 2015 and starts very near the lowest point in Australia at below sea level and finishes at the highest point in Australia at 2228 metres above sea level. A map of the route is below.

The initial part of the ride is through some very remote locations with big distances between supply points – Gammon Ranges National Park, Lake Frome, Yunta, Danggali National Park, Chowilla Regional Reserve - potentially no traffic and no people for days.

We re-join civilisation after about 10 to 12 days of cycling at Lake Victoria near Wentworth, on the River Murray in New South Wales. We then follow the river virtually the entire way to Mt Kosciusko. The last few days has some very challenging climbing.

Time to complete is guessed at around 3 weeks to cover the 2000 km and 7500 m of climbing. Each day will be about pedalling, eating, drinking and sleeping.

Taking in the world and the people in it from the seat of a bike is an unbeatable experience.
